What to Expect in a 15-Minute Therapy Consultation Call

Starting therapy doesn’t have to feel overwhelming

Deciding to reach out for therapy is already a big deal. You’ve likely been thinking about it for a while, maybe reading bios, scrolling through Psychology Today, and trying to figure out who might “get” you.

A 15-minute consultation call is simply a way to make that process easier and more human. It’s a short, friendly conversation to see if working together feels comfortable and aligned…no commitment required.

Especially if you’re neurodivergent, introverted, or just plain tired of trying to “explain yourself” to people. It’s okay to want to get a feel for things first.

It’s not a therapy session, it’s a conversation.

This call isn’t therapy. It’s just a chance for us to meet. We’ll talk briefly about what’s bringing you to therapy and what kind of support you’re hoping for. You don’t need to prepare anything or tell your whole story.

You can expect a relaxed, collaborative tone. If you’re someone who likes structure, I’ll guide us through a few simple questions. If you prefer a looser flow, that’s fine too. The goal is for you to feel at ease, not evaluated.

Getting a sense of what works for you.

I’ll start by introducing myself and sharing a little about how I work. Then I’ll invite you to tell me, in whatever way feels easiest, what’s been feeling challenging lately or what you’re hoping therapy can help with.

You can share as much or as little as you want. There’s no “right” way to communicate here. Some people give a quick summary; others want to talk things through a bit more. Both are completely okay.

You might mention things like:

    • What’s been stressful or hard lately

    • What helps you feel supported

    • Any preferences (like pacing, sensory needs, or communication style)

How I approach therapy

During the call, I’ll share a bit about my neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed approach to therapy. I often use EMDR, but the foundation is always the same: therapy should adapt to you, not the other way around.

We’ll also go over practical details like:

    • Scheduling and availability

    • Fees, insurance, or private pay

    • How telehealth sessions work

I believe in being transparent from the start so you can make an informed choice that feels good to you.

Your space to ask questions

This is your time to ask anything that helps you get a better sense of fit. Some people like to ask about my experience working with ADHD, autism, anxiety, or trauma. Others want to know what sessions actually feel like or how I adapt therapy for different needs.

There’s no wrong question here. You deserve to know what you’re signing up for, and to feel confident about it.

Deciding what comes next

If it feels like we’re a good fit, we’ll schedule your first session and go over what the intake process looks like. If not, that’s totally okay too—I’m happy to point you toward other therapists who might be a better match.

Finding the right therapist is about connection and comfort. You should never feel pressured to move forward just because you had a consultation. This is your process.

The goal: comfort, connection, and choice

A 15-minute consultation call is simply the first step in building a relationship that feels supportive and safe. It’s a space for you to explore, ask, and decide, without pressure or expectation.

Therapy works best when you can show up as your full self. My goal, from the very first call, is to make sure that feels possible.

If you’re ready to see whether we’d be a good fit, you’re welcome to schedule a free consultation. We’ll take it one small, thoughtful step at a time.

Ready to take the next step?

If you’re curious about therapy and want to see whether we’d be a good fit, you’re welcome to schedule a free 15-minute consultation call.

We’ll take it slow, talk about what’s been coming up for you, and see if working together feels like the right next step.

You can schedule your call or reach out directly to ask me any questions you have.

Whether we end up working together or not, I’m glad you’re exploring this. Reaching out is an act of self-awareness and courage. One small, meaningful step toward care that fits you.
